Lymphoedema is a condition in which there is an accumulation of fluid in the tissues due to a disorder of the lymphatic system. They may be congenital or occur as a result of damage to the lymphatic vessels, such as after surgery, trauma or infection. They most commonly affect the limbs, but can also occur in other parts of the body. They manifest as a feeling of heaviness, tight skin and a gradual increase in the circumference of the affected area.

Diagnosis uses imaging studies and clinical assessment. Therapeutic methods include lymphatic drainage, compression therapy and modern technologies such as UNISON, in which an acoustic wave is used. Appropriate interventions can help to control symptoms and maintain the proper functioning of the lymphatic system.
