Scarface (or keloid) is lumpy scarwhich is caused by a break in tissue continuity. It is usually hard to the touch and has a characteristic 'slippery' surface. It always requires a medical consultation.

Scarring - causes

Keloid is a non1TP4Malignant tumour that arises at the site of a wound healing. It occurs as excessively proliferated fibrous connective tissue. The lesion usually arises at the site of previous skin damage, e.g. from an extensive burn or cut, acne. Other potential causal factors include:

  • insect bites,
  • operational cuts,
  • vaccinations,
  • cosmetic treatment.

Scarring - symptoms

The keloid can range in colour from pink to dark brown. A scar is sensitive to touchoften triggers pain and itching. Can limit mobility at the site of occurrence. Some patients complain of discomfort associated with the presence of this lesion on the body.

Keloid - treatment

There are several methods treatment of keloids. Freezing with liquid nitrogen (cryotherapy) is a frequent part of the therapy, as is the intralesional administration of glucocorticosteroids. A series of injections of these preparations can be combined with cryotherapy. Another commonly performed method is laser scar removal. The procedure is performed by an experienced and qualified doctor.
