Burn scars depend on the degree to which tissue damage has occurred. First-degree burns, i.e. burns to the epidermis, are not problematic, heal quickly and usually leave no trace. In the case of damage to the dermis, extensive, convex and sometimes itchy scarring is most common. Its size is limited to the edges of the burn. Burn scars are associated with considerable pain, a long healing time and an unsightly appearance. A burn scar takes its final shape approx. 6 months after the burn.
