Burn scars They result from damage to the skin, and their appearance and severity depend primarily on the depth and extent of the burn. Superficial burns, affecting only the epidermis, usually heal without leaving any permanent changes. Deeper damage to the dermis, on the other hand, can lead to permanent burn scar.

A burn scar may vary in appearance and structure. Depending on the nature of the damage, it may be flat or raised, soft or hard, and may also be discoloured or bleached. Some burn scars They are accompanied by itching, tenderness, a feeling of tightness or pain. In the case of deep burns, the scar may restrict the skin’s elasticity and, if located near a joint, may also affect the range of motion.

Burn scars belong to the group traumatic scars. Depending on how the healing process progresses, they may take the form of hypertrophic scars, which remain within the boundaries of the original injury, or keloids, which extend beyond those boundaries. Their appearance and structure may change over time.

The process of scar remodelling It begins as early as the wound-healing stage and can last for many months, or even longer. Over time, the scar may become softer, lighter in colour and less visible. Its final appearance is influenced by, amongst other things, the depth of the burn, the location of the lesion, individual skin characteristics and the healing process. At a later stage, the scar may enter a phase mature scars.

Burn scars They may not only be an aesthetic problem. Extensive or deep lesions can cause itching, pain, a feeling of skin tightness, and a reduction in the skin’s elasticity and mobility. The location of the scar is particularly important, especially around the joints, on the hands, face or neck.

In the case of established burn scars Appropriately selected treatment methods can be used. The choice of treatment depends on the type of scar, its age, size, depth and location. In selected cases, treatments such as laser procedures are used, the aim of which is to improve the structure, elasticity and appearance of the affected skin.

Each burn scar requires individual assessment, particularly if it causes pain, itching, excessive skin tightness or restricted mobility. Appropriately selected treatment can support the remodelling of scar tissue and improve its appearance.

Micro-needle radiofrequency may be used in treatment scars and stretch marks. The combination of controlled micro-needling with radiofrequency energy stimulates the skin to regenerate and supports the production of collagen. Depending on the type and depth of the lesions, the treatment may help to smooth the skin’s texture and reducing the visibility of scars.
