Mature scars

Mature scars These are scars that have completed the healing and remodelling process. They are usually flat, soft and elastic, and their colour may be similar to the natural skin tone or slightly lighter. Unlike immature scars, they are not usually red, swollen or painful. Their appearance depends, amongst other things, on the type and depth of the previous skin damage, the location of the scar, and an individual’s predisposition to scarring.

Mature scars They may develop as a result of mechanical, thermal or chemical injuries, as well as following surgical procedures. They may also be the result of skin conditions, including acne. Although they become less visible and softer over time, they do not always disappear on their own.

In aesthetic medicine, various methods are used to improve the appearance of scars, and the choice of the appropriate treatment depends on their type, depth, size and location. The available methods include, amongst others, chemical peels, microdermabrasion and laser treatments.
