Hair is particularly sensitive to the menopausal period. Hormonal disturbances affect changes in both the quality and quantity of hair. Oestrogens are the hormones that have a beneficial effect on hair follicles as they prolong the anagen phase and accelerate hair growth. At menopause, when oestrogens are scarce, the effect of andorgenes on hair begins to predominate, with the opposite effect. They have an atrophic effect on the hair follicles located on the head. As a result, menopausal women experience thinning and thinning of the hair.
