Trichologist is a specialist who diagnoses problems relating to the hair and scalp. These include, amongst others,. greasy hair and the scalp, seborrhoea, seborrhoeic dermatitis heads, psoriasis and various types of alopecia. A trichologist also assesses the condition of the hair and scalp and recommends the appropriate course of treatment.

In the event of severe hair loss or changes to the scalp, a trichological consultation can help to determine the cause of the problem. Depending on the diagnosis, further tests or a dermatological consultation may be recommended. The most commonly diagnosed types of hair loss include, amongst others:. androgenetic alopecia, telogenetic alopecia, alopecia areata and hormonal alopecia. In diagnosis, it is important to identify the cause of the problem, as different types of alopecia require a different approach.
