Telogenetic alopecia This is a type of temporary or chronic hair loss that occurs when a greater than normal number of hairs prematurely transition from the growth phase to the resting phase. As a result, after a few weeks or months, one observes excessive hair loss and a gradual reduction in their density.
Factors that trigger telogenetic alopecia These include, amongst others, severe or chronic stress, infections, fever, sudden weight loss, nutrient deficiencies and hormonal changes. The problem may also arise after pregnancy or following an illness.
Telogen effluvium can affect both women and men. It is characterised by uniform thinning of the hair across the entire scalp, without the formation of clearly defined bald patches. In many cases, once the cause of the excessive hair loss has been addressed, the hair growth cycle gradually returns to normal.
A consultation may be helpful in the diagnostic process trichologist and carefully selected hair tests. These tests enable us to assess the condition of the scalp and hair and to identify possible causes of hair loss.
If the problem persists, you may wish to consider appropriately selected hair loss treatments. At Wellclinic, the treatments offered include methods designed to support scalp regeneration and improve the condition of the hair follicles.
