Crystalis is a modern preparation used in aesthetic medicine that has a dual function. It is filler instantly restores volume while also tissue biostimulator actively stimulating the skin to produce its own collagen.
Characteristics and composition of the preparation
Crystalis is a gel formula whose main ingredient is calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA). It is a natural mineral, identical to that found in human bones and teeth, which ensures its high biocompatibility and biodegradability. The formulation does not require prior allergy testing.
The secret of Crystalis' action is calcium hydroxyapatite microspheres (with an optimal diameter of 25-45 microns), which are administered deep into the tissues by injection (using a thin needle or cannula).
Two-stage mechanism of action
The effect of Crystalis is bi-directional and long-lasting, which is its advantage over traditional fillers (such as hyaluronic acid):
- Immediate effect (filling) - Once injected, its gel carrier fills volume defects, producing a visible lifting effect and elevation of the tissues immediately after the treatment.
- Long-lasting effect (biostimulation) - CaHA microspheres form a kind of scaffold (skeleton) in the tissues. This structure activates fibroblasts - cells responsible for the production of new, natural collagen and elastin. As the gel carrier is absorbed, its place is gradually taken up by newly formed collagen fibres, leading to a compaction, quality improvement i sustainability of effects.
Indications for treatment and effects
Crystalis is used for natural facial rejuvenation and body in people aged 40+ without the need for invasive surgical procedures, and its results typically last 12 to 24 months.
The main areas of application include:
- Facial contouring - improving the facial oval (e.g. drooping tissues, so-called "hamsters") and sharpening of the jaw line.
- Restoring volume - restoration of defects in the cheek, temple and chin area.
- Smoothing out wrinkles - Reduction of nasolabial furrows and marionette lines (folds running from the corners of the mouth downwards).
- Improving skin quality - density, firming and revitalisation of flabby skin, including skin on the neck, décolleté and hands.
The Crystalis treatment is characterised by the absence of a long recovery period and any local reactions (slight swelling or redness) usually subside within a few days.
Main contraindications
Although the Crystalis treatment is safe and well tolerated, there is a list of conditions that preclude its implementation. To guarantee complete safety, any protocol must be preceded by a detailed consultation, during which any strictures are ruled out.
Key contraindications include:
- Pregnancy and lactation.
- Presence of inflammation, infection (e.g. active herpes) or other lesions in the area of the planned injection.
- Autoimmune diseases and severe allergies.
- Uncompensated diabetes.
- The patient's tendency to form scarring (keloids).
- Taking certain blood-thinning drugs (e.g. aspirin or NSAIDs), which may increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
For patients who have previously undergone therapy with other permanent tissue stimulators in the same area (e.g. L-polylactic acid-based preparations), special caution and individual assessment by the doctor is required.
