Drooping eyelid - causes, symptoms and treatment without a scalpel.

Drooping eyelid

Drooping eyelid is a common aesthetic problem. It is characterised by a significant lowering of the upper eyelids of one or both eyes. The drooping skin forms a crease, which is not only an aesthetic defect. Excess skin can also reduce the field of vision and impede daily function. The problem of a drooping eyelid can affect people of any age. People with drooping eyelids often seek other solutions before opting for invasive surgery. Fortunately eyelid correction without incision is possible! Before we tell you, what is scalpel-free treatment, let us recall what are causes and symptoms a drooping eyelid.

What does a drooping eyelid look like?

Symptoms of a drooping eyelid difficult to miss. The fold of skin on the eyelid of one or both eyes drops noticeably, obscuring part of the eyeball. In some cases, the upper eyelid reduces the size of the eyelid crevice so much that visual comfort is adversely affected. A drooping eyelid - the causes of this condition.

One of the most common causes of eyelid drooping is the natural ageing processes of the human body. Skin sagging and drooping is caused by a decrease in collagen and elastin production. In addition, the skin on the eyelids is very thin and sensitive. This makes it particularly vulnerable to external factors

Sometimes a drooping eyelid is a congenital condition. Sometimes the condition even occurs in young children. Congenital eyelid drooping may be the result of abnormal development of the upper eyelid lever muscle.

Causes of a drooping eyelid include:

    • muscular nerve damage in the eye area

    • excess skin on the eyelids

    • diabetes

    • cancer.

Treatment of a drooping eyelid

Treatment of a drooping eyelid can take different forms, depending on the severity of the problem. Different procedures will be implemented for lesions than for an acquired defect. Sometimes even home remedies will suffice. Cold compresses on the eyelids can help improve the appearance and correct swelling caused by trauma or abrasion to the eye.

Lifting a drooping eyelid caused by ocular muscular changes or congenital defects, will require more invasive measures. The most common solution chosen is surgical eyelid surgery. The procedure is based on transcutaneous or transconjunctival correction of the eyelid lever muscle.

Blepharoplasty on the other hand, involves the removal of excess eyelid skin. The surgeon gently incises the moving part of the eyelid. He then cuts a narrow strip of skin and removes the excess fatty tissue. The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic. The incisions are made in the natural folds of the eyelids to minimise the risk of a visible scar. Eyelid plastic surgery is an invasive procedure. The patient, must take into account the risk of complications such as:

    • overcorrection,

    • visual disturbances

    • difficulties with wound healing

Wellclinic offers a treatment for drooping eyelids that achieves the same effect as blepharoplasty, but without the use of a scalpel. Laser blepharoplasty of the upper eyelids enables eyelid correction without surgery.

How to perform a blepharoplasty procedure without a scalpel?

If you are noticing contraindications to eyelid plasty and want a non-invasive solution, the Fotona Dynami Sp. Pro laser, may be the ideal solution. Vector Lift - Laser eyelid plasty is a procedure whose results resemble blepharoplasty. However, the correction of a drooping eyelid is performed without incisions or disruption of the epidermal continuity.
