Water cellulite (also known as ‘hard’ cellulite) is a type of cellulite associated with disturbances in the body’s water balance and impaired lymphatic drainage. It is not directly linked to being overweight and can also occur in people who are a healthy body weight. The changes mainly affect the subcutaneous layer and result from an uneven distribution of fluids in the tissues and pressure on the small blood vessels.

In some cases, the following is used cellulite reduction treatments, which support processes relating to microcirculation and lymphatic drainage from subcutaneous tissues.

Water cellulite - causes

Hard cellulite It arises as a result of disturbances in venous and lymphatic circulation, which lead to the accumulation of fluid in the interstitial spaces. This results in increased pressure within the tissues and a deterioration in their nutrient supply.

It is exacerbated by a sedentary lifestyle, a lack of regular physical activity and prolonged immobility. Another significant factor is wearing clothing that is too tight, as this can restrict blood and lymph flow.

At the development of water-based cellulite Metabolic and environmental factors also play a role, including a diet high in salt and simple sugars, which promote water retention in the body. In some people, hormonal disorders and the use of certain medicines that affect water and electrolyte balance are also significant factors.

Water cellulite - symptoms

Water cellulite It may be less noticeable in the early stages and often only becomes apparent when pressure is applied to the skin. At that point, unevenness, thickening and a feeling of tightness in the tissues become apparent.

In more advanced cases, the changes may also be visible at rest. The tissues in the area affected by cellulite are less elastic, and the skin may appear swollen. This is often accompanied by a feeling of heaviness in the lower limbs, particularly towards the end of the day.

Water cellulite – management

The process involves measures aimed at improving microcirculation and improving lymphatic drainage from the tissues. Regular physical activity is important, as it supports the cardiovascular system and reduces fluid retention in the body.

It is also important to stay properly hydrated and to limit excess salt in the diet, as this helps to reduce the tendency for the body to retain water in the tissues.

Methods that act on the subcutaneous tissue are also used, including technologies utilising acoustic waves and monopolar radiofrequency. These methods work by influencing microcirculation and tissue structure, and by improving tissue elasticity.
