Tinea pedis This is a skin infection most commonly caused by dermatophytes. Lesions usually appear between the toes, particularly between the fourth and fifth toes. The skin in this area may become whitish, macerated and greasy, and may also crack. Itching, a burning sensation and irritation are also common.

Depending on the type of infection, symptoms may include, amongst others, redness, thickening and excessive keratinisation of the skin, blisters, erosions and cracks in the skin.
