Facial scars

Facial scars They are most commonly caused by injuries, surgical procedures or inflammatory changes that accompany acne vulgaris. They are the result of the healing process, during which damaged tissue is replaced by scar tissue. Depending on the type and depth of the scar, it may be sunken, raised, harder or visibly different in colour from the surrounding skin.

The appearance of a scar changes over time. Mature scars are usually lighter in colour and more stable, whilst fresh lesions may be pink or red. A separate group consists of scarring, which tend to grow excessively. In the case of post-acne lesions, however, characteristic features are often present acne scars, i.e. atrophic scars visible as indentations on the skin’s surface.

Treatment of facial scars The choice is based primarily on their type, depth, location and the condition of the skin. One of the methods used in their reconstruction is laser therapy. Depending on the technology used, the laser energy can target specific layers of the skin, stimulating regenerative processes and tissue remodelling. The therapy utilises, amongst other things, Fotona DYNAMIS SP, and, where the indications are appropriately selected, also fractional laser.

The controlled application of energy to the skin supports its natural repair processes and may stimulate fibre remodelling collagen and elastins. As a result, over time, the scar may become shallower, smoother and less noticeable. In the case of acne scars, particularly deep ones, the outcome depends on their nature and the individual’s skin’s response to treatment.

In some cases, the following are also used in scar revision: radiofrequency microneedling, which combines controlled micro-punctures with RF energy. The choice of the appropriate method should be preceded by a thorough assessment of the scar, as different types of scar may require different treatment approaches.
