Oily skin It is characterised by excessive sebum production, which causes the skin to become shiny, particularly in the so-called T-zone, comprising the forehead, nose and chin. Enlarged pores and blackheads are also often visible. Excessive oiliness of the skin may be genetically determined, but it may also be linked to hormonal changes or other factors affecting the function of the sebaceous glands.

Oily skin is associated with excessive sebum secretion, i.e. the oil produced by the sebaceous glands. An excess of sebum can contribute to the blockage of hair follicle openings, the formation of blackheads and the development of acne lesions. The skin may feel sticky to the touch, appear very shiny and have visible pores. In cases of severe oiliness, there may also be seborrhoea.

Excessive sebum production is one of the factors that contribute to the development of acne. When combined with keratinisation disorders at the hair follicle openings, this can lead to blockages and the development of skin lesions. In cases of severe inflammation, papules and pustules may appear, and in more severe cases, purulent lesions may also develop. One form of this condition is pustular acne. That is why oily skin requires special care, particularly if it is accompanied by recurrent or severe acne.

Skincare for oily skin should include thorough yet gentle cleansing, adequate moisturising, and ingredients that help regulate sebum production and ensure the skin’s natural oil balance. The skin should not be over-dried, as this can lead to irritation and weaken its protective barrier. Depending on the skin’s needs, appropriately selected active ingredients can be used, such as retinol.

If oily skin If your skin is also prone to developing numerous acne lesions, it is worth consulting a dermatologist. A specialist can assess the condition of your skin, identify the cause of the problem and select the appropriate treatment and skincare routine. In the case of active acne lesions, one of the treatment options is laser acne treatment, which may help to reduce inflammation and curb excessive activity of the sebaceous glands.
