Active acne This is a period during which new inflammatory and non-inflammatory lesions appear on the skin, such as blackheads, papules, pustules, nodules and cysts. Acne is one of the most common skin conditions and can vary in severity. It most commonly affects the face, but lesions may also appear on the back, chest, shoulders and décolletage. Depending on the type and course of the condition, the following are distinguished, amongst others:. acne vulgaris, ropy, focused and keloid.

Causes of active acne These are multifactorial and may include excessive sebum production, keratinisation disorders at the hair follicle openings, proliferation of Cutibacterium acnes bacteria, and inflammatory processes. Hormonal changes and genetic predisposition may also play a significant role. In some people, the severity of the condition is also influenced by stress, certain dietary factors and inappropriate skincare routines. Aggressive cleansing and excessive drying of the skin can further irritate the skin and increase its reactivity. For those prone to excessive sebum production, appropriate skincare may also be important oily skin.

Symptoms of active acne These primarily include blackheads, papules and pustules, and in more severe cases also painful nodules, infiltrates and cysts. Inflammatory lesions may be accompanied by redness, swelling and tenderness of the skin. Individual lesions may take the form of spots. In cases of severe acne, there is a risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and acne scars, which is why it is important to start treatment early enough.

Treatment of active acne It is selected according to the type of lesions, their severity and the individual needs of the skin. In the case of severe or persistent lesions, a consultation with a dermatologist may be advisable.

Acne should never be taken lightly. It is a dermatological condition that requires a personalised treatment plan. Aesthetic medicine treatments are also used in the treatment of active acne lesions. One option is laser acne treatment. A laser device used in the treatment of active acne is Fotona 4D. The number and frequency of treatments are determined on a case-by-case basis, depending on the type and severity of the lesions.

Early diagnosis and appropriately selected treatment can reduce the risk of permanent post-inflammatory changes and acne scars. In the case of existing scars, treatment methods are used which are aimed at removal of acne scars.
