Anagen This is the active phase of hair growth, during which the processes responsible for the hair’s development and lengthening take place intensively within the hair follicle. It is the first of the three phases of the hair cycle, followed by the phase catagen, that is, the transitional period, and the phase telogen, which is associated with the resting phase and hair shedding. The duration of the anagen phase depends, amongst other things, on the area of the body and individual factors. On the scalp, it can last for up to several years, whilst for hair on other parts of the body it is considerably shorter.
The anagen phase is of particular importance in the case of laser depilation. During this period, the hair is actively attached to the hair follicle, and the melanin within it can absorb the laser energy. This energy is then converted into heat and affects the structures responsible for hair growth. For this reason, laser depilation is most effective on hair that is currently in the anagen phase.
Not all hairs in a given area are in the anagen phase at the same time. Some of them may be in the catagen or telogen phase. For this reason, a single treatment cannot affect all hair follicles at the same time. Laser hair removal is carried out as a series of treatments, the spacing of which is determined according to the area of the body and the individual hair growth cycle.
Anagen It is also significant in the context of anagen hair loss, known as anagen effluvium. This is a sudden and intense loss of hair in the active growth phase, most commonly associated with factors that damage the rapidly dividing cells of the hair follicle. In contrast to androgenetic alopecia hair loss associated with anagenal hair loss It may occur suddenly. Once the cause has been addressed, hair often starts to grow back; therefore, in the event of excessive hair loss, it is important to identify the cause and choose the appropriate course of action.
If you are experiencing problems with excessive hair loss, it is worth having the condition of your scalp and hair assessed by trichologist. A specialist can help identify the cause of the problem and recommend the appropriate course of action.
