EMFACE® This is one of the most advanced technologies currently used in non-invasive facial rejuvenation, forming part of a modern approach to tissue remodelling. This treatment utilises monopolar radiofrequency and HIFES® technology, which stimulates the synthesis of new collagen and elastin fibres, thereby producing a lifting effect. EMFACE® It is one of the few technologies that acts on both facial muscles and the skin at the same time, which sets it apart from traditional treatments radiofrequency or mesotherapy.
The system connects radio frequency (RF) energy, which acts in the dermis and stimulates neocollagenesis and improved tissue tone, with synchronous electromagnetic stimulation (HIFES), which induces intense contractions of the facial muscles without the need for needle electrodes.
The treatment has been designed to act simultaneously on both the facial skin and the muscular structures responsible for maintaining the facial contour and skin tone. In practice, this results in an improvement in skin quality and texture, a reduction in wrinkles, and a visible firming and lifting effect on the tissues – all without the use of needles or a scalpel, and with no recovery period. EMFACE® It is regarded as a method that supports the natural regenerative processes of the skin and subcutaneous tissues, including fibroblast activity and the production of collagen and elastin, rather than as a mechanical intervention in their structure. The effects become apparent gradually, as the tissues are remodelled.
Why does the face lose volume as we age – the key mechanisms
The ageing process of the face is not limited solely to the skin. Changes in the facial muscles and supporting structures also play a key role. A particularly significant factor in the ageing process is the weakening of ligaments and other supporting structures, which leads to a gradual sagging of the tissues and a loss of facial proportions.
Production also declines with age collagen i elastins, which leads to a loss of skin elasticity and a reduction in its ability to regenerate. As a result, wrinkles appear, the facial contours sag, the cheeks lose their firmness and changes occur along the jawline.
EMFACE® It has been specifically designed to target all these areas simultaneously, promoting a non-invasive facial lift and improving the quality and texture of the skin.
How EMFACE® works
EMFACE® technology combines two complementary methods of tissue treatment: synchronised radiofrequency and HIFES®. Their simultaneous action enables multi-level treatment of the face and initiates tissue remodelling processes.
Synchronised radio wave, of which monopolar RF wave, is responsible for gently heating the skin on the face to a temperature of approximately 40–42°C. Within this temperature range, excitation occurs fibroblasts, i.e. the cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin. As a result, skin remodelling processes are triggered, leading to smoother skin, an improved texture and visibly firmer tissue.
Synchronised RF technology It is also used to work on the fascial system, which supports the structures that hold up the face and improves their tone. At the same time, the technology HIFES® It acts on the facial expression muscles, causing their intense, selective activation. This type of activation improves muscle tone, which in turn provides better support for the facial tissues and produces a natural lifting effect.
The combination of both technologies allows simultaneous treatment of the skin, fascia, connective tissue and facial muscles, which sets it apart EMFACE® compared with other non-invasive methods.
Why is it important to target both the skin and the muscles at the same time?
Many non-invasive treatments focus primarily on improving skin quality. However, the ageing process also involves a weakening of the facial muscles and the facial support structures responsible for maintaining the face’s natural contours.
EMFACE® It acts on both these levels simultaneously, thereby improving not only the skin’s appearance but also its internal support. This multi-layered action produces a harmonious rejuvenating effect, without altering facial features or unduly interfering with the face’s natural anatomy. In practice, this means a more comprehensive approach to the ageing process, taking into account both superficial changes and the deeper structures responsible for the skin’s firmness and the facial contour.
Effects on connective tissue and supportive structures
EMFACE® It also affects the connective tissue and fascial structures responsible for supporting the facial tissues. As a result of its action EMFACE devices® This leads to an improvement in the density and quality of deep tissues, resulting in more stable support for the structures and a reduction in their sagging.
As we age, the properties of these structures gradually deteriorate, resulting in a loss of firmness and changes to the facial contours. Stimulation caused by radiofrequency and HIFES® technology It supports tissue remodelling processes, improving tissue tone and supportive functions. As a result, the treatment acts not only on the skin’s surface, but also on the deeper structures responsible for maintaining a more youthful appearance.
BTL – the technology provider behind EMFACE®
EMFACE® is a non-invasive device used in aesthetic medicine, designed to simultaneously stimulate the skin and the facial expression muscles.
The technology was developed by the company BTL Industries, is an international medical technology company founded in 1993 in the Czech Republic. It currently operates in over 70 countries worldwide. Over the years, it has evolved from a manufacturer of rehabilitation and cardiology equipment into one of the key players in the aesthetic medicine market, specialising in non-invasive body and facial modelling technologies. It is BTL that is behind treatments such as EMFACE, which combines advanced medical technologies with a modern approach to rejuvenation without the use of needles or a scalpel. The company consistently invests in clinical research and the development of devices based on tissue physiology, which means that its technologies are widely used in aesthetic medicine clinics around the world.
EMFACE is certified FDA (Food and Drug Administration), which means that the device has been authorised for use on the US market as a medical device and has undergone an assessment of its safety and efficacy for specific clinical indications.
Applicators and treatment areas
The treatment can be carried out on four key areas of the face: on the forehead, cheeks, chin and around the eyes. These areas may be addressed during a single session or separately, depending on the treatment plan.
Their selection is based on the individual needs of the tissues, facial movements and the expected clinical outcome. Each area is treated using dedicated applicators, designed to take into account the specific anatomy and direction of action.
Forehead
In the forehead area, the treatment involves simultaneous stimulation of the skin and the frontalis muscle. The applicator designed for this area is tailored to the needs upper part of the face, including horizontal expression lines, drooping eyebrows and changes resulting from intense facial expressions. Stimulation of the frontalis muscle may help to lift the eyebrows and make the eye area appear „wider”, whilst RF technology helps to improve the quality and firmness of the skin.
The treatment can also be used in patients receiving botulinum toxin. Improving the condition, tone and turgor of the tissues between injections may potentially help to maintain the aesthetic effect and allow for longer intervals between treatments, particularly in areas with high facial muscle activity.
Cheeks
Cheeks They are one of the most important treatment areas, as they determine the appearance of the mid-face, its proportions and tissue support. Treatments in this area target the muscles responsible for facial expression and tissue lifting, including, amongst others, the greater and lesser zygomatic muscles and the risorius muscle.
Work in this area focuses on sectors where muscle tension affects the position of the cheeks, the texture of the tissues and the visibility of the nasolabial folds and the corners of the mouth. The cheek area It is chosen when the aim is to improve the lift of the mid-face, enhance the contour and proportions of the cheeks, and reduce the appearance of tissue sagging.
The analyses described changes following a series of treatments, including, amongst other things, an increase in volume in the cheek area and a reduction in the jawline region, which correlates with an improvement in the structure of the mid-face.

The chin and the area around the double chin
This area covers the lower part of the face: the chin, the jawline, and the chin and submental fold. When used in this area, the applicator acts on the tissues to reduce the sensation of heaviness under the jaw and improve contour definition.
Studies have shown, amongst other things, a reduction in double chins and a significant increase in adipocyte apoptosis rates, suggesting that the process of fat cell elimination is intensified.
The area around the eye – the lower eyelid and the side of the eye
In therapy eye area Specialised applicators designed for use on the lower eyelid and the lateral part of the orbital region are used. Their design enables them to simultaneously improve skin quality and support the muscular structures.
RF technology It supports the regeneration and improvement of the skin’s structure, whilst muscle stimulation targets, amongst others, the lower part of the orbicularis oculi muscle. This results in improved firmness of the periorbital tissues and a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and puffiness.
An additional benefit of the treatment may be improved lymphatic drainage around the eye. This is particularly important for patients with swelling of the lower eyelids, referred to as Malar Bags, the formation of which is facilitated by a loss of tissue support, fluid retention and the prominence of fat pads.
The EMFACE® treatment procedure
The EMFACE® treatment It is a non-invasive procedure and does not require anaesthesia. Before the treatment begins, the skin is cleansed and, if necessary, make-up and jewellery are removed from the treatment area.
During the session, the device’s applicators are placed on the face at precisely defined points. The treatment lasts on average 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the area, and does not require a recovery period.
During the treatment, the patient may feel controlled heat and rhythmic, intense but well-tolerated contractions of the facial muscles. The whole procedure is carried out in comfort, and the device’s safety system allows treatment to be stopped immediately should any discomfort arise.
The effects of EMFACE® therapy
The effects of EMFACE® They are gradual in nature and result from tissue remodelling processes. The first changes can be noticed immediately after the treatment – the skin appears more rested and firmer.
Over the following weeks, processes of neocollagenesis and the remodelling of elastin fibres take place. Over a period of approximately two to three months, a gradual improvement in skin structure, a reduction in the appearance of wrinkles and an increase in skin density are observed. At the same time, the facial muscles are strengthened, which lifts the tissues and improves facial proportions, resulting in a natural, harmonious rejuvenating effect. The effects are cumulative, and the full results are usually visible a few weeks after the course of treatments has finished.
Personalised treatment planning
Although the first results can be seen after just one session, the extent of the improvement depends on age, the stage of the ageing process, and the condition of the skin and facial muscles.
Therefore EMFACE® therapy This is preceded by a consultation during which individual needs are assessed and a suitable treatment plan is drawn up. This approach enables us to achieve the best possible and most natural results, as well as to tailor the number and frequency of treatments to the patient’s expectations and the regenerative capacity of their tissues.
Effectiveness confirmed by clinical trials
The effectiveness of the EMFACE® treatment has also been assessed in clinical trials. The results indicate that, following a full course of treatments, the following were observed: an average increase in collagen levels of approximately 27%, an increase in elastin levels of up to 129%, a reduction in wrinkles of approximately 36.8% and an improvement in skin smoothness of 25.3%.
Studies have also shown that an increase in facial muscle tension by an average of 30%, which resulted in more defined facial contours and a natural lifting effect. It should be borne in mind, however, that individual results may vary depending on age, skin condition and the body’s natural response.
Preparation for the procedure and recommendations
Before starting EMFACE® It is important to take into account the condition of the patient’s facial skin and their treatment history. It is recommended to avoid intensive exfoliating treatments, such as deep chemical peels, microdermabrasion and dermabrasion, for approximately three months prior to the planned therapy.
When using isotretinoin, it is essential to wait at least 12 months after the end of treatment. Immediately before the treatment, make-up and any jewellery must be removed from the face, and the skin should be free from irritation and inflammation.

Safety and comfort during the procedure
EMFACE® It is a non-invasive procedure and requires no recovery time, meaning that patients can resume their daily activities immediately after the treatment. The treatment is well tolerated, and the sensations experienced are limited to a feeling of warmth and gentle facial muscle contractions.
The device is fitted with a safety control system that allows the treatment to be stopped immediately in the event of any discomfort. As the therapy does not breach the skin’s integrity, the risk of complications is minimal compared with invasive methods.
Once treatment has finished, it is recommended that you protect your skin adequately against UV radiation and use high-factor sun cream every day, as this supports the skin’s regenerative processes and helps to maintain the results achieved.
Contraindications for EMFACE®
Despite its high safety profile, there are clinical situations in which the procedure should not be performed. This applies to active inflammation of the facial skin, bacterial and viral infections, autoimmune diseases in the active phase, as well as the presence of a pacemaker, defibrillator or metal implants within the device’s treatment area.
The treatment is not carried out on pregnant or breastfeeding women, or on patients undergoing cancer treatment. Caution is also advised in cases of coagulation disorders, vascular diseases, uncontrolled diabetes and active skin conditions such as psoriasis or eczema.
The long-term effects of EMFACE®
The tissue remodelling process following EMFACE® treatment It does not end when the session is over. In the weeks and months that follow, there is a gradual reorganisation of the collagen fibres and an improvement in the quality of the facial muscles.
The best results are seen after completing a full course of treatments, which helps to achieve more stable and long-lasting effects. During this time, the face gradually regains its firmness and a more defined contour.
It is worth noting that the pace and extent of the changes achieved vary from person to person and depend on natural ageing processes, the initial condition of the tissues and lifestyle. To maintain the effects in the long term, it is often recommended to undergo follow-up treatments at regular intervals, which helps to maintain optimal skin and muscle tone. EMFACE® It can also form part of broader anti-ageing strategies, combined with other methods of improving skin quality, depending on individual needs and the aims of the treatment.
EMFACE® and other aesthetic medicine treatments
EMFACE® It stands out from many other anti-ageing treatments thanks to its dual action on both the skin and the facial muscles. Unlike traditional methods that rely solely on radiofrequency energy, laser therapy or injectable treatments, EMFACE® It combines RF treatment with HIFES® technology, enabling it to address both the quality of the skin and its internal fascial system. As such, it complements – rather than directly replacing – therapies such as mesotherapy, botulinum toxin or dermal fillers. It can be used as part of combination therapies aimed at comprehensively improving tissue quality, whilst preserving natural facial expressions and features.
Natural facial rejuvenation without surgery
As we get older facial muscles they atrophy, leading to a gradual loss of tone and a reduction in volume, and consequently to a loss of support for the facial tissues.
The EMFACE® treatment It utilises the synchronised action of radiofrequency and HIFES™ electromagnetic stimulation. The aim of the treatment is to reduce wrinkles, improve skin firmness and stimulate the facial muscles, which helps to lift the facial contours and improve the quality of the deep supporting structures.
EMFACE® It is in line with the trend in aesthetic medicine based on making the most of the body’s natural regenerative mechanisms. Rather than mechanically interfering with the tissues, the technology supports their physiological regeneration. This makes it possible to achieve the effect skin rejuvenation and smoothing without altering the facial features, whilst maintaining a natural and harmonious appearance.
The therapy forms part of a comprehensive tissue remodelling, whilst simultaneously acting on the various layers of the skin and the facial support structures. Stimulation of the production of collagen and elastin leads to a gradual improvement in skin quality, increased elasticity and a smoother complexion. As a result, a reduction in wrinkles and a natural lifting effect are observed, which develop gradually as the tissues are remodelled and regenerative processes take place within them.

Frequently asked questions
EMFACE® is not a direct substitute for surgical procedures such as a traditional facelift, but it can be an alternative in certain cases. In particular, for patients who do not yet require surgical intervention, EMFACE® technology enables noticeable improvements in skin firmness and facial contour without the use of a scalpel.
The treatment acts simultaneously on the facial muscles and the skin, using stimulation of the facial muscles, HIFES technology and radiofrequency, which leads to improved tissue density and lifting. As a result, the face looks younger and the contours become more defined.
Unlike a surgical facelift, EMFACE® does not involve any recovery time or the risk of surgical complications. The results, however, are more subtle and gradual, which is a major advantage for many patients.
The treatment is particularly suitable for people aged 30–55 who are noticing the first signs of sagging skin but do not yet wish to undergo surgery. In such cases non-surgical facelift, improvement of the facial oval and natural skin firming may be entirely sufficient.
One of the greatest advantages of EMFACE® is that the treatment does not alter facial features, but simply improves the skin’s quality and firmness. This means that the patient retains their natural appearance, but with a visibly younger and more rested look.
Unlike some aesthetic medicine treatments, EMFACE® does not involve the use of fillers or restrict facial movements. As a result, a natural-looking face, preserved facial expressions and biological skin rejuvenation remain fully under control.
The treatment works by improving muscle function and firming the skin, which subtly lifts the face without creating an „overdone” look. Patients often describe the result as „a better version of themselves”.
The effects appear gradually, which further enhances their natural appearance. People around the patient usually notice that they look better, but are unable to pinpoint the exact reason.
EMFACE® can significantly improve the appearance of nasolabial folds, particularly when they are mild to moderate. However, it does not act like a traditional filler, which mechanically „fills” the hollow, but rather improves the structure of the tissues from the ground up.
The combination of HIFES technology and radiofrequency helps to strengthen the facial muscles and firm the skin. This provides better support for the central part of the face and makes wrinkles less visible.
The key outcomes are reduction of nasolabial folds, improved facial skin firmness and natural lifting of the cheek tissues. In practice, this means that the face looks more rested and younger without altering its features.
The treatment is particularly effective for people whose furrows are caused by a loss of firmness rather than simply a loss of volume. In such cases, EMFACE® can be an alternative to, or a complement to, other aesthetic medicine treatments.
The results appear gradually and look very natural, which is a major advantage for those who wish to avoid invasive procedures.
EMFACE® is one of the technologies that can effectively improve the contours of the face without the need for surgery. The treatment acts on both the skin and the muscles, resulting in a natural lifting effect.
Stimulating the facial muscles strengthens them, which in turn improves support for the facial tissues. As a result, the contours become more defined and the jawline is better defined.
The key results are improvement of the facial oval, contour modelling of the mandible and lower face lifting. The skin becomes firmer, which reduces the „blurred” appearance of the contours.
The treatment does not alter facial features, but restores their original definition. This is why it is particularly popular amongst people who are noticing the first signs of sagging but do not yet wish to opt for invasive procedures.
The effects are gradual and cumulative, making the face look naturally younger without any sudden changes.
The effects of EMFACE® usually last from a few months to around a year, although their duration depends on a number of factors, such as age, lifestyle, skin condition and the regularity of your skincare routine.
The treatment works at the level of the muscles and skin, which means that the effects are not merely superficial, but result from a genuine remodelling of the tissues. As a result, the results are more long-lasting than with many traditional aesthetic treatments.
The key factors affecting durability are the long-term effects of EMFACE®, facial muscle stimulation and improvement in skin quality, which together slow down the ageing process.
To maintain the results, it is recommended that you have follow-up treatments every few months. This helps to keep muscle tone and skin quality at a high level.
EMFACE® works like a „face workout”, which is why its effects may last longer for people who take care of their lifestyle, sleep, diet and protect their skin from UV radiation.
EMFACE® can be combined with Botox, but it is essential that the treatment is properly planned by a specialist. As both treatments target different mechanisms of ageing, they can complement each other.
Botox reduces the activity of facial muscles, whilst EMFACE® strengthens the muscles and improves skin quality. This makes it possible to smooth out wrinkles and improve tissue firmness at the same time.
The result of this synergy is Combining EMFACE® with Botox, comprehensive facial rejuvenation and reduction of expression lines, which together provide a more comprehensive anti-ageing effect.
However, it is important to allow sufficient time between treatments so as not to compromise the effectiveness of either technology. The treatment plan should therefore be tailored to the individual.
EMFACE® can be performed following hyaluronic acid treatments; however, it is essential to allow sufficient time between treatments and for the patient to be assessed on an individual basis by a specialist.
Hyaluronic acid is responsible for restoring tissue volume, whilst EMFACE® targets the muscles and skin quality, enabling a comprehensive approach to facial rejuvenation.
The key benefits include EMFACE® following hyaluronic acid treatment, safe combination of aesthetic treatments and comprehensive improvement of the facial contour, which together enhance the effectiveness of anti-ageing treatments.
In practice, EMFACE® is often scheduled as a primary treatment or carried out once the effects of dermal fillers have stabilised, in order to avoid any interference between the two methods.
EMFACE® is a safe and non-invasive treatment; however, there are contraindications that preclude its use. A medical consultation is always required before starting the treatment.
The main contraindications include pregnancy, active skin infections in the treatment area, certain neurological conditions and the presence of electronic implants, such as a pacemaker.
The key aspects are EMFACE® contraindications, the safety of aesthetic medicine procedures and eligibility for the EMFACE® treatment, which determine whether treatment is possible.
The treatment should also not be carried out in the event of recent facial surgery or active skin inflammation.
